My Teaching Philosophy

Learning occurs at each students own rate.  Each student has their own style of learning.  Teachers must present materials in different ways to accommodate each students learning styles.  Every student has their own background that is importation to create unity in learning.  Students need to be taught all concepts until they come to understand them.  Teachers should be organized in how they teach and in the classroom, this well help student to learn more effectively.  The classroom should be a positive learning environment for all.  Students shall have an equal amount time of lecture and student exploration for the day.  The human brain does not comprehend information like a computer, information must be taught over and over again and in different ways to help one to comprehend it.  All students learn differently.

Teachers are more then just facilitators; they should be active in the student learning process.  Teachers should help students to succeed and go beyond the mark of what is expected.  Teachers should help students to discover critical thinking to help them develop skills that will help them in the future.  The teacher’s attitude towards everything will affect students greatly.  Teacher’s attitudes should be positive, so students will all want to come and learn.  Teachers should be willing to work with all students with disabilities to help make learning possible and help them to succeed.  Teachers should always be encouraging student to do their best in all they do.

The goal of education is to help all students to gain knowledge that will help them to gain personal independence in the world for their futures. Everyone is held to the same curriculum. Therefore, teachers should form a curriculum that should fit each student personally.  Other things that should be taught, that are not in the curriculum, are public values of fairness, honesty, respect and truth. These values can be taught in the classroom by example from the teacher and be creating a classroom community.  Once rules are created the teacher need to follow them. All students should be held accountable for their own work and be held at high expectations. When a student falls short it is the teacher’s responsibility to get down on their level and assess what they understand and form a new plan from that.

As a teacher I believe by giving real life applications, it will help students to make connections between what they’re learning and real life.  There should be some lecturing with a lot of hands on activities and small group discussions in a class.  Students should have a mixture of methods of learning. Field trips are important.  They impact student’s lives; they are more likely to remember a field trip over a typical day of class.  Field trips should be educational and some how relate to something the students are learning in class.  Opportunities for students to collaborate together to solve problems is another good way for students to learn. Students should have time to work individually on assignments as well as collaboration with other students.  Finally the classroom will be a community where students work together and bring something different to contribute to the class. Parents will be involved and the classroom community should reflect the community at large.

I want to be a teacher because I want to make a difference in someone’s life. Teaching is an opportunity to help guide learning and discovery which will to help students reach a higher goal of learning. Through this I hope that students will gain knowledge that will help them through out their lives.
